This Privacy Policy explains how Lagom handles personal data when you use the Lagom language learning app, website, and related services. It should be read together with our Terms of Service. Terms of Service.

Data We Process

Account data, such as your name, email address, password credentials, and user ID.
Learning data, such as selected courses, completed lessons, word progress, XP, streaks, preferences, lesson packages, and exercise results.
Content you provide, such as feedback messages, support requests, exercise answers, and messages sent to AI features.
Speech data when you choose to use speaking or speech-recognition features. Audio is used to provide the feature and is not intentionally retained longer than necessary for that request.
Profile photo data when you choose or take a profile photo. Profile photos are stored locally in the app unless a future version clearly says otherwise.
App and website analytics, such as page or screen views, interaction events, platform, device category, country code, referrer host, language, time zone, and technical metadata.
Technical and security data, such as IP-derived rate-limit data, authentication tokens, logs, and error information needed to operate and protect the service.

How We Use Data

To create, verify, and manage your account.
To sync progress and preferences across devices.
To provide language lessons, exercises, audio, streaks, and progress tracking.
To provide AI-powered help, explanations, and learning support.
To respond to feedback, support, and account deletion requests.
To keep the app secure, prevent misuse, and enforce rate limits.
To measure, debug, and improve the app, website, course content, and user experience.
To comply with legal obligations.

Artificial Intelligence Features

Lagom includes AI features, including the Liv assistant and AI-supported explanations. When you use these features, your prompt, relevant course context, progress context, language settings, and conversation identifiers may be sent to AI service providers so they can generate a response.

We do not use your personal data, prompts, or AI conversations to train general-purpose AI models. AI output can be incomplete, inaccurate, or inappropriate, and should be treated as learning support rather than authoritative advice.

Service Providers

We use service providers for infrastructure, authentication, databases, hosting, analytics, email delivery, speech-related functionality, and AI functionality. Current categories include Appwrite, Vercel, Google/Gemini, Mistral, email delivery providers, and platform services provided by Apple, Google, or the device operating system.

Legal Bases

Where the GDPR applies, we process data based on performance of a contract, legitimate interests such as service improvement and security, legal obligations, and consent where required.

Data Sharing

We do not sell personal data. We may share data with service providers that help us operate Lagom, when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business transfer with appropriate notice.

Retention and Deletion

We keep account and learning data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize associated account data, progress, preferences, and AI conversation records without undue delay unless limited retention is required by law, security, or abuse-prevention needs.

Security

We use safeguards designed to protect personal data, including HTTPS in transit, authenticated API access for account data, access controls, rate limiting, and service-provider security measures. We do not apply additional encryption at rest beyond what our infrastructure providers offer by default.

Children

Lagom is intended for users who are at least 16 years old, or the minimum age required under applicable law. Users below that age may only use Lagom with consent from a parent or legal guardian.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your data, request portability, withdraw consent, and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above and, where appropriate, by notifying users in the app or by email.
